CFMA Chicago is proud to support the Construction Industry Alliance for Suicide Prevention’s (CIASP) Miles that Matter Virtual 5K! Run, walk, bike, swim, whatever feels right for you! Complete your virtual 5K (3.107 miles) anytime during the month of September - all at once, or divide it up over several days.

When asked if you wish to join a team, select "yes" and choose CFMA Chicago from the drop down menu. The fee to sign-up is $35 and includes a t-shirt. There is an option to make a donation if a 5K is not for you.

Why Suicide Prevention Awareness Matters

Construction remains one of the industries most affected by suicide, driven by a combination of workplace, cultural, and personal factors. While recent data shows encouraging progress, with suicide deaths among construction workers declining 1.7% from 2023 to 2024, thousands of lives are still lost each year.

Key reasons awareness saves lives:

Recognizing warning signs enables friends, family, and colleagues to intervene and connect people with help
Reducing stigma around mental health encourages people to seek support before reaching a crisis point
Education about available resources—hotlines, counseling, and treatment options—provides concrete pathways to care

Training in crisis response equips more people to provide immediate support during vulnerable moments
